These are some of the issues involving construction materials and/or practices that have the potential to affect your property.  Click on the titles below, or the links to the left, for additional detail.

Expansive Soil

The Colorado Front Range is famous for its expansive soil, causing millions of dollars in damage to homes, buildings, roadways and infrastructure.  Proper engineering and construction are of paramount importance in mitigating the potential for damage.

The Drought

Everyone knows that our climate has not been this dry for 50 years. But did you know that many homes are experiencing significant damage as a result?

Aluminum Wire

Aluminum wiring was used  from about 1965 until about 1975 as an alternative to copper wiring. Most homes built during this time frame have aluminum wiring.

Radon Gas

Considered by the EPA to be the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer, radon gas is common in Colorado.  Fortunately, mitigation is relatively easy and inexpensive, but you need to know if you have it.

Shake Shingles

Are they an asset or a liability.  Despite their good looks, cedar shake shingles are not ideally suited for our Colorado climate.

Hardboard Siding

With lawsuits abounding against manufacturer's, owners of homes with hardboard siding can take simple precautions to protect themselves.

EIFS

Short for Exterior Insulation and Finishing System, EIFS is commonly known as synthetic stucco.

Mold

Suspended floor systems in basements provide an ideal environment for mold growth.  Learn how to protect yourself.

Asbestos

Asbestos has long been known for its excellent insulating qualities and resistance to heat.  Contrary to popular belief, asbestos is still allowed in certain building materials and applications..

New Construction

The Denver area has been experiencing a new-home construction "boom" since the early 1990's.  The rapid rate of construction, however creates many opportunities for construction errors and deficiencies to occur.
